Does architecture reflect or instigate changes in our society? Can it control how we feel? How does it affect our sense of community? “Americans today seem to feel that a sense of community is exactly what needs to be revived in this country,” states Scully in his book “Destiny by Design”.
Vincent Scully is the Sterling Professor Emeritus of the history of art at Yale University whose teaching and scholarship have profoundly influenced prominent architects and urban planners for more than four decades. He has published many articles and more than a dozen books which span a wide spectrum of subject matter, and is one of Yale’s most recognized scholars. He has defined architecture as a “continuing dialogue between generations that creates an environment across time.” Scully has been described by world-renowned architect Phillip Johnson as “the most influential architectural teacher ever.” Scully is the recipient of the 2004 National Medal of Arts awarded by the National Endowment for the Arts, an independent federal agency.
“I am deeply honored to interview Dr. Scully”, states host Katherine Morris. “His philosophy as well as his candid opinions regarding principles of modernism that is incompatible with developing a sense of community is exactly the global conversation we strive to produce for our audience.”
