August 7, 2005 -- Platinum Television Group is pleased to announce the selection of Red Deer College for its innovative, educational television series, Today’s Family. The college will be featured in a segment on “The Importance of Choosing the Right College”.
“ The faculty and staff at Red Deer College are committed to our values of exploration, inclusiveness, excellence, integrity, community and accountabilit... ”
Red Deer College, located in the heart of central Alberta, Canada, last year celebrated its 40th anniversary by vowing to gain more students from all parts of the world.
The college was started in 1964 as a small learning program in the wing of a local high school with a student population of about 100 students. Now the college has grown into an innovative campus offering various areas of study, with an enrollment of more than 6,500 students and 10,000 credit-free students from all over the globe. A new facility was opened in 1968 and has been expanded immensely since then with the addition of new wings and buildings, a Performing Arts Centre, and an interactive library.
Their vision is to be the best comprehensive college in Canada. The college offers a full array of programs – certificate, diplomas, applied degrees, university transfer and degree completion, adult development, and apprenticeship and trades programs. The courses offered at Red Deer are vast and cover all aspects of the learning spectrum. Some of the different areas of study include business administration, nursing, hospitality and tourism, carpentry and construction, music, computer systems technology, education, visual art, theater, and apprenticeship training. Although smaller than many universities, Red Deer offers a high quality curriculum at a fraction of the cost and leaves its graduates with infinite options for a successful future. Over its 40-year history, graduates of Red Deer College get jobs and the college’s students achieve as well as, or better than, students who begin at universities.
The college offers many more extracurricular activities and housing options than most other colleges of similar size. The athletic program is one of the top college programs in Canada. The Red Deer College Kings and Queens can participate in an unlimited amount of sports including hockey, basketball, and volleyball. The campus also offers a fitness resource centre, childcare centre, a career resource centre, as well as the beautiful Performing Arts Centre. Students have the option of conveniently living on campus in one of Red Deer’s many apartments and townhomes, which come with great amenities. There is also a large 275-seat cafeteria located right next to on-campus housing.
If living in a safe and beautiful area while getting an excellent education is one’s dream, then Red Deer College is a perfect place to make that come true.
“To be a part of a college community where learning is at the heart of everything we do is extremely satisfying for me,” says College President Ron Woodward.
“The faculty and staff at Red Deer College are committed to our values of exploration, inclusiveness, excellence, integrity, community and accountability.” he added. “That helps ensure the best possible learning experience. Our small classes, great facilities and beautiful campus will help any student feel ‘at home’ “.
