“ We are proud that our designs can offer residents an affordable place to live without sacrificing design ”
The Enduring Design Award is a National NAHRO Agency Award of Excellence and will be presented during the NAHRO National Conference in Chicago, IL on Tuesday, October 11, 2005.
“We are proud that our designs can offer residents an affordable place to live without sacrificing design” says Stephen Tise, Principal, Tise Design Associates. Tise continues, “Commonwealth proves that physical redevelopment strategies such as reducing density, eliminating common hallways, and carefully programming open space create long term benefits to the residents of public housing.”
The Commonwealth Development consists of reconstruction of a family and senior housing development on the site of the former Fidelis Way Housing Project. To complete The Commonwealth Development project, fifteen acres were reconfigured, which included planning of new roadways, landscaping, pedestrian walkways and recreation areas. In addition, three new community facilities were designed, including a community and management building, a childcare center and a senior community center. This $32 million dollar project was a key flagship effort of the Boston Housing Authority’s program to restore the city’s deteriorated public housing stock.
Tise Design Associates has received notable awards such as The Urban Design Citation/BSA in 1985, the Governor’s Design Award 1986, the BSA Governor’s Award 1987, the AIA Urban Design Award in 1988 for The Commonwealth Development.
