Chad DeWitt, the interior designer for the 2006 Sunset Magazine’s Celebration Idea House contacted John Clark, sales manager of ISS in March. “Chad described the Idea House project and the need for us to incorporate the white oak wood finish for shelves and cabinets with our aluminum ISS Designs hardware. We were excited to work with Chad to come up with three distinct wall designs for entertainment, work space and bookshelves with base cabinets,” says Clark. The open shelving design of ISS is a perfect match for the modern home’s flowing spaces.
The Idea House is based on a modular design built with structural insulated panels (SIPs) that are assembled on site. The house structure is comprised of two main sections that are connected to each other. There is an outdoor seating area with a plasma TV mounted on the far wall when walking from the main living room to the bedrooms. DeWitt decided to mount three ISS Designs cabinets to the TV wall with shelves above the TV. According to Clark, “this is the first time we have mounted our cabinets to a wall made with SIPs. The design worked great and the cabinets are floating perfectly in the open space with the two shelves above.”
All of the components for the three walls were shipped ready to assemble direct from ISS in Southern California to the Idea House at Sunset in Menlo Park. “Our system is the right design for this house and the concept of on site assembly is the same. The two person installation team built the cabinets and completed the installation in just a few hours. The wall units can easily move with the house to its permanent location after the exhibition,” says Clark. The high profile installation gives home owners a look into the future of shelving.
Sunset anticipates over thirty thousand people to tour the Idea House beginning at Celebration Weekend on May 20-21st, 2006. The home will be open for home tours over the following four weekends from May 26th through June 18th, Friday to Sunday. The home is located on Sunset Magazine property at 85 Willow Road, Menlo Park, CA.
