August 8, 2005 -- Stargazer Press announces special deal on new literacy aid for schools today.
“ The obvious advantage to teachers and schools is that staff do not have to compete for resources. ”
Stargazer's guided reading program includes 130 printable stories from A-Z with five booklets for each reading level. Stories also have printable lesson plans and coloring sheets both in a Canadian and American version. The entire program is on one CD for ease of storage. It spans from Kindergarten to grade three in terms of reading levels.
The new deal announced today includes the same great low price coupled with further advantages to make life for teachers easier and of course, affordable for schools.
Under the new deal, a school can buy one CD of Stargazer's guided reading program and Stargazer Press allows teachers within that school to copy CD's for current staff. With purchase, the school is automatically granted a license to use the product in this manner and CD's are specially formatted to allow copying.
"This automatically makes our program the best deal out there. Our competitors have renewal fees or replacement costs on their programs. Imagine no renewal fees or replacement costs forever. Just a one time payment at our great affordable price. The obvious advantage to teachers and schools is that staff do not have to compete for resources. They can have their own CD," says company co-owner Shane Wilcox. "So long as it is used by current staff only within the school, Stargazer Press is happy to extend this deal to schools."
Typically guided reading programs cost 5,800 U.S. or 7,000 Canadian dollars for one set for one classroom in one school. For each teacher in the primary division to own a set, it would be financially impossible. By buying a CD from Stargazer Press, all teachers are able to own their a set and this reduces competition for resources on a school level.
Also included in the new deal for schools is the lack of restrictions on printed materials for teachers. In Canada, teachers comply with Cancopy which means they can only copy up to 20 percent of a printed matter in total. The truth is many teachers do not have the resources and often do violate established regulations in Canada and elsewhere.
Stargazer Press does not have the same copyright restrictions.
"We encourage teachers to send home booklets. Studies show that involved parents buoy success for students. Reading is the key to success in school and in life. We hope our program has a big impact on literacy and is the ultimate link between school and home."
Stargazer Press is a small business in Barrie, Ontario, Canada dedicated to producing low cost educational programs.
"Our goal in creating this program originally was to lower the cost for educational programs by thinking outside of the box," says Shane Wilcox. "Our experience as teachers, in a England and in Canada taught us that schools are not all created equally in terms of resources. We want to change that."
