The contemporary multi-level complex “is improving operating efficiencies, eliminating fragmented mail processing between multiple facilities and reducing inter-station transportation, all of which will result in the elimination of more that 3,000 work hours per year,” said Los Angeles Postal District Manager William Almaraz.
According to project architect Michael Rachlin, the design concept and building forms were inspired by a geometric interpretation of the Postal Service’s eagle logo. A variety of materials are used throughout, and the main building features a prominent façade of galvanized ribbed sheet metal panels and textured cement plaster and horizontal glass panels. “Our design will help improve Post Office function in the area and provides a safer and more productive work environment for Postal Service staff,” said Rachlin. Cost of construction was $14 million.
