Rachlin Architects Completes New Santa Monica Post Office Carrier Annex; Facility Creates Safe Work Environment and Operating Efficiencies

(PRWEB) April 5, 2006 -- The Rachlin Architects-designed Carrier Annex in Santa Monica is now open and fully operational. Located at 711 Olympic Boulevard the facility processes mail for zip codes 90403 and 90405.

“  Our design will help improve Post Office function in the area and provides a safer and more productive work environment for Postal Service staf...
The contemporary multi-level complex “is improving operating efficiencies, eliminating fragmented mail processing between multiple facilities and reducing inter-station transportation, all of which will result in the elimination of more that 3,000 work hours per year,” said Los Angeles Postal District Manager William Almaraz.

According to project architect Michael Rachlin, the design concept and building forms were inspired by a geometric interpretation of the Postal Service’s eagle logo. A variety of materials are used throughout, and the main building features a prominent façade of galvanized ribbed sheet metal panels and textured cement plaster and horizontal glass panels. “Our design will help improve Post Office function in the area and provides a safer and more productive work environment for Postal Service staff,” said Rachlin. Cost of construction was $14 million.

The Institutional Design Group of Culver City-based Rachlin Architects has completed more than 250 planning and design projects for the United States Postal Service and is consistently ranked among the top design firms by USPS. The firm’s staff of 18 architects uses a collaborative process, led by the partners, that challenges the client, user and project architect to develop inspired program-driven design solutions that are meaningful, community based and environmentally responsible.

Established in 1982 by Michael Rachlin, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, IIDA, and expanded in 1992 with Richard Ingrassia, AIA, LEED AP, Culver City-based Rachlin Architects specializes in public spaces, institutional design, higher education, K-12 schools, multi-family housing and historic preservation and has been recognized with awards for design excellence, including a national AIA Honor Award.
