A component of TDCI's BuyDesign guided selling and configuration solution suite, BuyDesign Configurator is a flexible, intuitive product configurator that guides users through selection of available features, options and dimensions to specify orders for customizable products. It verifies that the combination of selected features is valid and manufacturable, calculates pricing, and generates configuration-specific manufacturing information such as bills of material and routings for the ordered product. In so doing, it helps companies increase sales by becoming 'easy to do business with' while at the same time helping them reduce order processing time, cost, and errors.
Porvene Door systems can be complex with a number of different options in terms of curtain materials, electric motors and sensors, vents, and install kits. Dimensions are also specified to fit a particular opening. BuyDesign Configurator is used during order entry to guide Customer Service Reps through selection of the ordered door size and options, validating the combination as it goes. It then prices the sales order, and generates the manufacturing order with a configuration-specific bill of material and routing. The manufacturing order is then passed to Microsoft Dynamics GP for production scheduling and execution.
"We've significantly changed the way we operate by incorporating BuyDesign Configurator into our new business system," says Stephen Bryan, Porvene Doors Controller. "With our old system, we maintained a full bill of material (BOM) for every size and variation of the doors we make. That added up to over 50,000 different part numbers and associated BOMs. The effort and cost to maintain all those parts and BOMs was onerous. Now we use the configurator to generate that information on the fly as products are ordered - eliminating the vast majority of that data maintenance. We could not have made this important change with Great Plains alone - it's the product configurator that makes it possible."
Bryan adds: "Another benefit of BuyDesign Configurator is that it's now much easier to train new Customer Services Reps. We're also looking forward to implementing BuyDesign Channel Sales to move product specification out to our dealers so they can enter their own orders on our web site. That's another thing we would never be able to do without the TDCI product configurator."
Implementation assistance for both BuyDesign and Microsoft Dynamics GP was provided by Integrated Systems Solutions (ISS) headquartered in Orange, California.
