Of, By and For: Icons

(PRWEB) March 10, 2006 -- Today, Eboniste, The Style Resource announces a literal first. Eboniste.com is the first place where customers can pre-order the Icon Chair by Philippe Starck for Emeco in advance of its formal launch at Milan’s Salone Internazionale del Mobili in April, 2006.

Emeco product launches are notable for collaborations between the world’s most innovative architects and only-in-America manufacturing, to create award-winning design.

In true, formidable style the Icon Chair is made of 100% aluminum, (80% recycled to meet LEED ™ sustainability criteria). The Icon Chair is created by Emeco’s proprietary 77-step manufacturing process wherein Emeco individually forms chairs from soft aluminum. Then, they flush-grind welds and heat-treat the aluminum into sculptural seating that is three-times stronger than steel.

Emeco’s finishing includes hand-buffing and clear-anodizing to accentuate aluminum’s shimmering grain. The final Emeco products emerge fine, hard and beautiful. Unchangingly modern since 1944.

In Mr. Starck’s words the design is “serene, balanced, minimal and coherent”. In our words, the super-sexy new design is a continuing example of Emeco’s and Mr. Starck’s leadership.

The Icon Chair is deceivingly comfortable, stacks beautifully and has a lifetime warrantee. The signature hand-brushed finish is $350 and the super-glam, hand-mirror-polished finish is $770. Eboniste is accepting pre-orders now for late-April delivery.

About Emeco:
Emeco–The Aluminum Chair Company has made over 1,000,000 of its 1944 all-aluminum Navy chairs. The Company collaborates with renowned product designers yearly.

In 2000, Mr. Starck's Hudson chair for Emeco won the GOOD DESIGN Award and was inducted into the permanent design collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 2004, Emeco collaborated with Frank Gehry on Superlight, a chair that utilizes aluminum's ability to be both strong and flexible. Mr. Gehry's chair won another GOOD DESIGN award in 2004 and was included in collections at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Pinakothek der Modern in Munich. Most recently, Emeco worked with BMW DesignworksUSA to re-interpret a long-lost Emeco chair from 1951 for the contemporary market. www.Emeco.net
