July 16, 2005 -- Newport Collaborative Architects (NCA) has two new educational design excellence awards from American School & University Magazine.
“ Excellence in Business Award ”
The St. Philomena School (Portsmouth, RI) and the St. Andrew’s School (Barrington, RI) projects will appear in the 2005 Educational Interiors Showcase Issue of American School & University Magazine in August. The projects were chosen among 105 interior design projects from across the country. This is the second consecutive year that NCA’s projects have been selected by American School & University Magazine as representing the best in educational facility design standards.
According to John K. Grosvenor, AIA, Managing Partner, “We are honored to be part of this years Interior Showcase. We were very pleased with the end results of both of the projects and as always, it is great to have our work recognized.”
A new classroom building at The St. Philomena School features inspiring, but flexible spaces that incorporate state-of-the-art technology and harmony with the school’s five existing buildings. The St. Philomena team was led by Partner Glenn R.Gardiner, AIA, with Michael DeMatteo as Project Manager and Designer, and Melissa Duby, AIA as Designer.
The new Arts Center at The St. Andrews School creatively accommodates a large program in a building that is at home on a campus of small buildings. The new building features a 300-seat auditorium, a black box theater, photography lab, and art and music classrooms. The unique design consists of four connected pavilions that surround the auditorium and make the facility appear smaller than it actually is. Greg Yalanis served as Project Manager and Designer, Alex Hurditch, Designer and 3D rendering, Kristie Gardiner, Interiors, and Partner John K. Grosvenor, AIA, Partner Architect.
