(PRWEB) September 30, 2005 -- Leave behind your bottle of water or can of soda before leaving your dorm room. That's what administrators at Siena College in upstate New York are telling students of all ages. Starting September 17th, students will no longer be allowed to consume any kind of drink outside at any time of the day.
“ Due to social behaviors that are becoming increasingly disruptive to the campus community, effective immediately, students who are 21 years of age are no longer allowed to consume alcohol or any other beverage in any type of container outside of their tow ”
In response to a string of recent incidents at the college involving non-students, the school issued an e-mail to all students containing the following:
"Due to social behaviors that are becoming increasingly disruptive to the campus community, effective immediately, students who are 21 years of age are no longer allowed to consume alcohol or any other beverage in any type of container outside of their townhouse or in any public area on campus."
College officials insist the new rule will help maintain security on campus by stopping unregistered guests from causing problems, but how drinking a cup of coffee on the way to class ties in with campus crimes is confusing many students who are calling the new policy “grossly unfair.”
The school's vending machines are still located throughout buildings on campus, and administrators say students can enjoy those beverages in dining areas or once they return to their room.
Siena officials may look to further revise the new policy in the future, but their current focus remains on keeping unwanted visitors off campus.
