(PRWEB) June 24, 2006 -- As an elementary educator and chemistry major, Michele Sternick, sees the importance of science and how it needs to be incorporated into fun learning experiences for children. With her first book "The Charged Up Twins" she hopes to start the cycle.
In the book “The Charged Up Twins,” twin brothers, Cation and Anion are used to explain the positive and negative charges as well as the chemical vocabulary important in basic science. The twins, separated at birth, are raised in different families and develop different personalities. Cation always has a positive personality and Anion always has a negative personality. One day there is a crisis in town and the bridge that connects the city to the country falls apart. The twins, who are specialists in metal and wood work, are called to the rescue. As they work on repairing the bridge, they find out about their past history as brothers. Cation and Anion develop a close bond, just like positive and negative charges, and eventually form a company called “Ionic Bond Inc.”
Children are drawn to the story because they want to find out if the brothers find each other in time to save their distressed town. The vivid pictures and bold face print also emphasize and reinforce science concepts while appealing to children. The beauty of “The Charged Up Twins,” is that children are learning without realizing that they are learning, and they are having fun.
“The Charged Up Twins” by Michele Sternick is a book ideal for classroom use and good for all ages. It can be read to preschoolers and it is enjoyed by older children or adults. It would be a perfect way to introduce an electrical or chemical unit and should be available in a classroom library for reuse by the teacher and students. “The Charged Up Twins” can be found at lulu.com or amazon.com.
