Architect Anthony Eckelberry Develops a Dramatic New Titanium Kitchen

(PRWEB) December 3, 2005 -- Architect Anthony Eckelberry designed a Los Angeles kitchen using titanium in a natural color for countertops and applying colored titanium to the backsplash walls.

Titanium is an exotic metal utilized in space-age structures for its strength and light weight. It is also used to make handcrafted jewelry due to its ability to take on jewel-like colors. This is the first application of the material in a home environment and makes best use of its many qualities.

The metal is also used in orthopedic implants, so is especially safe for all human food contact. It is completely impervious to all food acids or alkaline substances in the kitchen and is a proven killer of bacteria, for a healthier kitchen environment.

Titanium can be colored with an industrial process that can yield colors such as blue, green, brown and even purple! The colors also have a glow that Anthony Eckelberry enhances by a process of preparing the metal prior to fabrication into building elements.

Anthony comments: “We wanted to coordinate the color of the stainless steel appliances with greens and yellows in the room and this titanium was the ideal material to bridge the colors. As titanium can be tinted various metallic shades, we selected the colors that would harmonize best.”

The homeowner added, “The material looks fantastic, it makes the kitchen very modern; it makes a change just with the titanium.”

Architect Anthony Eckelberry concludes, “This project shows that in the right hands this exotic material has potential for luxury applications combining its sanitary and artistic qualities.”
