April 11, 2005 -- RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) is European Union's (EU) directive (2002/95/EC), or “Green” specification. As of July 1, 2006, the RoHS directive will require the removal of six hazardous substances, including lead, from all electronic products shipped into the EU. A product is considered to be RoHS compliant if the maximum concentration value is up to 0.1% by weight in homogeneous materials for lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, PBB and PBDE, and is up to 0.01% by weight in homogeneous materials for cadmium.
